8th Grade, "You are what you eat"
I asked the 8th grade to think of a food that represents themselves. The food could be symbolic of their culture or ancestry, representative of a memory or relationship, or about their personalities and what they are interested in.
They had to think about the scale, the color, and the texture of the food. Below are a few photos of students working as well as the finished display.
The final part of the piece was to write an artist statement describing their connection with this food.

Hi Suzie! This is Yota. I came across your blog via Massart digication. It's wonderful! Your students' work is amazing. I was wondering, what material did they use for this project? Are these ceramic?
ReplyDeleteHi Yota! Good to hear from you. These projects are made out of clay. We used acrylic paint instead of glazes to paint them. This allowed for better color mixing.
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well!
