"We like to play"

One of the great things about being a 1-8 art teacher is that I get to see the same students every year. So, needsless to say, I get to know them pretty well. This particular group of third graders i have noticed is very active and loves to play. It doesn't really matter what the activity is, as long as they are moving about and playing. So I set up a still life in the classroom. They responded really well to the assignment possibly because the objects were simple or that the objects were familiar and personal to them. The interest on the student's part is always something I strive for and it allows me to focus on the techniques more since the motivation is already there. We were able to talk about composition, overlapping, color mixing, highlights, shadows, and more. I will definitely do this one again!
