Every year there is this build up of excitement from my students to make something out of clay. They simply love to mold, hallow, flatten, press, and form with this squishy stuff. I love it too and really enjoy seeing every student feel successful. I like to start each clay unit with a "Clay Play Day". The students spend a class getting "reacquainted" with the clay and exploring the many ways to manipulate it. This is also a great time to review techniques and responsible clay studio practices.
