I usually encourage students to write an artist statement once their artwork is complete. It gives the student time to reflect on their work and to share their ideas with others. Today, in addition to writing their artists statements, the First Graders had time to hang their finished work on display in the room. This is one of my favorite ways for students to reflect on their work and view the work of their peers. I can see that sense of pride beaming across their faces when they see their artwork hanging up. Even more, when they see another classmate admiring their work.
