Paper Mache Birds

I introduced the concept of an armature to my 2nd grade students. They build their armatures using tape and newspaper, covered their forms in paper paper, painted, and added details. This is a terrifically fun project resulting in many birds with their own unique characters. The bottom picture is what I have the students work on when their birds are drying or complete.
